  • Thu May 04 2006, 07:21pm PT....................... .......... NO RUST, yes I said no rust! However it had a couple of fender bender accidents during its lifetime. The front bumper had "pushed" something in the right front corner. And the right rear bumper had backed into something once. A previous owner painted this truck White with Black stripping and highlighting. It was originally Romany Maroon from the factory. I found out it was painted White for a reason!! Please read about this in a later picture. It was born in Kansas (GM factory) and believed to have spent most of its life (40++ years) in Oklahoma. It was born as a 235 straight 6 cylinder with a three on the tree manual transmission. Later the transmission was replaced with a 4 on the floor (w/granny gear). The 235 had been totally rebuilt including values hardened so it would pur on unleaded gasoline. For those of you who have heard a 235 run, it sounds like an old old sewing machine. (Guess you have to be over 50 to know what this sewing machine sounds like.) The rebuilt engine maintained that sound which was great! It had a ONE barrel Rochester carburator. The first time I took this to the local rapid OIL Change garage, they guys kinda looked at each other and rubbed their heads (like Lorell and Hardy actions). I said I wanted a LUBE and OIL change. Well I guess no one knew what a LUBE meant because NONE of the grease zerks were even touched anywhere underneath. They didn't know what to do about the oil filter, I had to explain they needed to call NAPA for a replacement. (They really didn't know how to change the filter, I had to show them where/how.) Of course this has very "manual" steering and manual brakes with drums !! No disk brakes or power anything. The clutch and brakes share the SAME master cylinder for oil AND one continuous brake LINE. SO if you ever get a brake line leak, you loose pressure to everything.

  • Thu, 04 May 2006 19:59:45 Also note the WHITE wagonwheel rims with Super Digger tires. When I purchased this truck, I really, really liked this look of these wheels with the overall white paint of the truck. The white truck and wheels with the accents of the body stripe , the black tires, the black front bumper, the black rear bumper, black accent on the hood center top. Combine this with the red bowtie emblem on the front of the hood, I really thought this color scheme was well thought out by a previous owner. Boy, was I ever WRONG !!! Seemed no one else had the same excitement about the white wheels with digger tires like I did. Maybe others thought the color scheme was okay, but !!!!! We all agreed that the paint job was very "rattle can" like and the truck need to be repainted. WHEN I STARTED this project, I really thought that all we were going to do was simply do a new paint job. (I guess I really didn't know what that meant. I didn't have a clue!!!) I asked, "will we be done in 3 or in 4 weeks?" I think it took me about that much time to strip and sand the cab alone. ...
