Album Info:

Hangar 87 was the original Qantas hangar from the days when Qantas flew the flying boats. It was dismantled from Rose Bay and brought to the Qantas Jet Base at Mascot. The renovated Super Constellation is in the foreground. My office was at the back of this hangar, and I looked out on runway 07/25 - could sometimes almost touch the aircraft as they ambled out for take off, lining up one after the other.

  • You would probably have seen the recent series on TV about the early days of Australian aviation. Interesting all that about Kingsford-Smith wasn't it? Peter

  • Hi Michelle - great to hear from you! I have had many albums and photos featured over the last couple of years, and in addition to the Sydney pic there are two of my autumn shots from Westonbirt Arboretum (UK) in the editor's autumn collection currently showing on the home page! Glad you liked the Sydney harbour pics. here are the comments I have sent out to many of the visitors this week: Thanks for your very kind comments on my 'Photo of the Day' on 27 Sept 06 (user ozzieblr, Sydney Australia Vacation album, title Sydney CBD by night from Milson's Point). My album had more than 214,000 visitors who made over 54,000 downloads that day - and yours was one of hundreds of guestbook messages that were left! I hope you were able to visit the rest of that Sydney album and my 70+ other albums (some of which have also featured on Webshots home page), as there are many equally good or even better photos among them from London and all over the UK, Europe, and parts of the USA and Asia. After five years in London I will shortly be returning to live in the most beautiful city in the world, Sydney. I hope to take many more stunning images of that fabulous harbour city over the next few years. For those many who asked about the Sydney night photo, these are the details: Date: 30 July 2002 … Time: 6.26pm … Camera: Sony DSC-707 5mpixel Carl Zeiss lens … Focal Length: 9.7mm … ISO: 100 … Exposure time: 7.0 secs … Exposure program: 1 … F-stop: f3.2 … Metering mode: 5 … Tripod: yes … I will try to visit your albums over the next few weeks as well. Regards, Brian ... You may be interested in my photos of the Airbus A380 at the recent Farborough International Air Show!
