Album Info:

Ordered by Gen. Luigi Crocco, technical director of the Air Ministry, the Caproni Stipa was built in 1932 to test the theories of Ing. Luigi Stipa regarding the thrust effect of a venturi-tube fuselage. The barrel-like two-seat machine, mounting a 120 h.p. D.H. Gypsy III engine within the mouth of the tube, made successful flights, but did not possess outstanding performance, even considering the low power. The fuselage contributed ~37% of the total lift of the machine.
