As you can see, the points do not have to be sharpened much at all. Just enough is OK. Most of the fix is done by the notch in the adjoining stock rail. I no longer have any problems with derailment on my #4 Kato turnouts. Prior to tuning: my Lifelike SD7's always derailed, although my Kato's never derailed.
