I filed away the threads at the top part of the threaded area, next to the "shoulder". This "relief groove" is similar to the one the stock rollover valve, and should help things to seal up better. I've had no leak problems on my tanks. My barbed portion uses 1/2" hose. A 5/8" hose barb would've probably been even better, but wasn't easily found in the hardware stores I hang out at.....
