Measure the "installed height". It is easier with the sprnig out of the way.

The Service Manual says to install the new strut at the same height as the original, or at the bottom. Loosen the 2 pinch-bolts on the strut housing, and remove the strut. Install the new strut at the same height and torque the pinch-bolts to 15 foot-pounds.
