  • I'm 63 years old. Grew up in Costa Rica prior to moving to the U.S. in 1960. Grew up watching C-46's and DC-3's flying over my house, about 12 miles from the airport. Flew to Panama in 1956, on a C-46, and the crew allowed me to visit the cockpit for about 20 minutes. I still remember the thrill. Returned in a DC-3. Flew DC-3's several other times, including one time where the pilot announced prior to landing on what was then a remote primitive runway in the north of the country, that we had to make a low level overflight over the runway to scare away the cows grazing there. Watching your wonderful pictures has brought back many memories. Thank you for taking the time to scan and upload. Loved the picture of the DC-6, as I almost didn't make it this far in life when flying a Mexicana airlines DC-6 from Los Angeles to Guadalajara in 1959, was asleep without the seat belt on, and we hit some turbulence. I woke up when I had been lifted by a downward lurch of the plane and hit the overhead compartments. When we landed, my dad asked me why I had this huge welt or bump in my head. I did the "manly" thing and said it was a minor bump during the storm we had encountered. Only 20 years later or so did I realized I could have had a concussion and had much more dire consequences. Things were a bit different back then. Again, thanks for the tour though memory lane. Hector
