Wonderful photos, if you ever get the chance they do a partial run in the winter that is breathtaking. My family has lived in the Durango area since the 1920's, natures beauty abound there.

I have loved trains all my life, When I was a little girl the engines looked much like this and the engineer always rode with one arm out the window and when he saw a car on the road along the tracks would blow the whistle and wave and we waved back; I have lived in Colorado and been thru Durango an up the million dollar highway. thanks for the memories

Have taken several trips on this train. Just took a family vacation so they could enjoy it for the first time. Many years ago I remember that the Indians would come out and dance when the train pulled into the station. Wish there were pictures of that on this site. Anyway great photos of the train, I have downloaded some and will downlaod some mor of them. Thanks

I have really enjoyed your photos of these great older trains and the beautiful surroundings with them. Please don't stop adding to them. The older one's are so hard to find and are enjoyed so much by so many. Thank you.

I took this trip twice and have never gotten it out of my mind. In all my travels abroad and in the U.S. this trip keeps coming into view. It was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and cannot wait until the next time I take it again. Like before I will stay a day in Durango and then this time spend overnight in Silverton. Lucky are the people who live in Colorado and can always enjoy the splendor of the beauty of that state.

Very nice set of pictures. Aside from the fun of riding and watching these trains we have to remain vigilant against the small minority of Durangans who want to stop the trains. They complain about the smoke, noise and people pollution. Another NIMBY group trying to force their views on the majority. Thanks for the pictures.

I was Born In Durango,Co- am am very proud to say so- am now living in New Mexico- and can say that every chance I get I go home-- these photos of our train are so important to me and they bring back so many memeories as a child of listiening to the whistle of this train in the valley where my aunt lives as well as where my dear grandmother lived on the hills of Durango.I told granny that I once thought of painting the train on a water tower over looking Durango- near where she lived, and I thought that I might paint that train on it.. but that was just a thought.. she has passed(God rest her soul) but that is my home town and the sound of that train will be with me unil I am with her, so Thank you for these photos, they brought a tear to my eyes, and a forgoton memory of the ones that I love that still live in Durango, COLO. MY HOME :)
